What should I expect at a Bahá'í event?

At Bahá’í activities in Wilmette, you can expect a warm, loving atmosphere where many types of people will be present, and everyone’s views are respected. Whether you’re at a devotional gathering, community group, or children’s class, we hope you’ll feel right at home.

  • Diversity: The Bahá’í Faith is a community open to all people, regardless of their religious background or where they are in their spiritual journey. This is a great place to meet a diverse group of people and become a part of a supportive community that reaches out to those who are hurting, in need, or who just want to belong to something bigger than themselves.

  • Relevance: One of the special things about the Bahá’í teachings is that they are specifically relevant to the issues that humanity faces today.

  • Real connections: One of our main goals for every community activity is for people to be able to connect with God and with each other.

What should I wear to a Bahá'í event?

In general, the attire is weekend casual. Basically, just make sure you’re comfortable.

What’s available for kids?

Kids are welcome at devotional gatherings, where there are sometimes special classes just for them. There are also children’s classes and jr. youth activities.

What is available in addition to devotional gatherings?

We offer Study Circles, which are small groups of people (usually 4-8) that meet in homes or in locations around town to connect with each other and apply the Bahá’í teachings in a life of service to humanity. There are a few different study topics going on at any one time.

We also offer Children’s Classes. These classes encourage children to recognize their own nobility and the inherent nobility of their classmates. The children acquire knowledge and spiritual capacities which they can integrate into their everyday lives.

Finally, we offer Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Groups, which are designed for kids between the ages of 11-14. Youth are encouraged to develop a strong sense of purpose, empowering their own transformation and leading them to contribute to the advancement of society. Young people’s spiritual capacity, the basis for their own happiness and sense of well-being, is a powerful force for social change.
